How much does it cost to build a Garage in the U.K.?

garage in the UK

How much a garage will cost will primarily depend on the size but also the foundation, types of roof, and the various material used. We are going to look at different types of garages – wooden garages, brick-walled garages, and even prefabricated garages so you can way all of your options out!

Garage Cost Guide

Overall brick wall garages and wooden garages are very popular. As far as building materials go, given the same size and features, a brick garage would be the most expensive, followed by wooden garages, and finally, prefab being the least costly to construct.

The number of doors and windows you want in your garage will affect the price, as will the type and shape of roof covering – a flat roof being much cheaper than a pitched and tiled roof.

Here is a brief rundown of our garages to give you an idea of what wooden garages cost in the south of the U.K. Ideal and Elite are our two different ranges. Note that we always do bespoke designs as well.

Where you can save on your Garage costs

Foundation – the depth of your foundation and the thickness of the base slab are all made with concrete, which isn’t cheap! Educate yourself on the soil type of where you want to build your garage so you can optimise the thickness of the slab and decide how much concrete you need. Our team is always on hand to offer advice on this as well!

Roof – As mentioned above, a flat roof is cheapest but not always the most visually appealing, and they do not have the longevity that tiled roofs have.

Walls – if you plan on spending a lot of time in your garage or may convert it in years to come, we recommend the more structurally sound double skin wall. If you don’t plan on converting your garage, the good news is that a single skin wall will do just fine, and is much cheaper!

Quality craftsmanship – If the materials you use for your garage are high quality, and the actual construction of the build is sound, you will save yourself money in the long run. Repairs and remodelling can get expensive. Invest in a garage built by craftsmen, and you will thank yourself later!
