Ways to Spoil your Horse this Valentine’s Day

spoil your horse this Valentine's day

Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion to shower your equine Valentine with extra love! In this article, we talk about all the different ways to show your love and appreciation to your four-legged friends (of course, we mean horses!).

Extra Grooming

Every horse enjoys a good groom! So, why not spend a bit longer brushing their favourite spots to show how much you care for them? Treat them with a new set of grooming equipment and even a cleansing wash.

This can also be an excellent opportunity for you to strengthen your bond with them. Engaging your horses in activities where they are not required to do any work is the best way for your horses to relax and enjoy time together with you.

A quiet time with you, your horse, and a brush will benefit your relationship in the long run. Don’t forget to give them extra cuddles!

Longer Rides

Go for a long, adventurous ride with your horses to different locations. You could take them to an open field or even a beach for fresh air and amazing view. I promise you will enjoy it too!

Remember that different horses like or dislike different things. If your horse is uncomfortable with open space, then their idea of fun could be different. Maybe they’d prefer slow walks in a familiar space? Spend the day doing whatever activity you feel they will enjoy the most.

Favourite Treats

Chocolates may sound nice, but they are highly toxic for horses.

A way to your horse’s heart or stomach would be an extra scoop of their favourite feed combined with a handful of pumpkin seeds, hay cubes and snacks such as fresh fruits and vegetables, such as carrots, parsnips, apples, and pears would be even more appreciated.

Have you tried to give your horses treats by hand? If you haven’t yet, this might be a perfect opportunity for you to bond even more! Simply flatten your hand and put a treat in the middle, and watch them grab it with this mouth.

Special Valentines Gift

If you are looking for a special Valentine’s gift, we have some ideas for you. Maybe they would like a new partner in crime?

Horses, like humans, are very social animals and love the company of other horses. You could set a perfect date for the two equine friends for Valentine’s Day! Take them for a ride together, let them graze together, or you could even groom them together.

If the date is with a new horse, make sure to take safety precautions. Remember to cautiously examine their body language in case they are not comfortable around each other.

If your horse is not very social, or if meeting up with another horse isn’t possible, then spending quality time with a trusted human friend is a perfect backup date.

Valentine’s Day is for lovers of all types! Another way you could show it to them is by buying a new stable or a new extension!
