6 Safe and Effective ways to keep your Wooden Garage Warm

It’s November, and we have many cold winter days ahead of us.

In cold weather, we all love staying indoors and keeping warm by the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate. However, there are many of us using our garages as an office, art studio, or workshop where we spend a lot of our time. So, how can you keep your wooden garage nice and warm?

With the arrival of the colder months, it’s time we start thinking about how we can safely keep warm in our garage.

Before you get started, there are a couple of things you need to consider. How cold is your winter? How sufficient is your current garage insulation? After this, you will need to measure your garage space and decide on how warm you want your garage to be.
Next, fix all gaps, cracks, and damages on your garage. Make sure to replace or fix any damaged parts immediately; this will stop the cold drafts from entering. This is a vital step towards keeping our garage and what items we have stored in there safe. Consider using vinyl weather seals; they can be used on drafty windows. Another thing to consider is the Insulation. Well-fitted garage insulation is a must. This will ensure that the heating does not escape and save money on heating bills.

After considering everything mentioned above, let’s have a look at heating options for your garage:
1. Portable heaters: These are great for garages as they are light and easy to move. Make sure to buy a suitable one for our space, and that it can produce enough heat to keep your garage warm.
2. Electrical underfloor heating: Underfloor heating ensures that garages are warm and cosy, from the toes up! There are several types of underfloor heating mats available – it’s best to do research on these and decide which one you like. We can always offer our opinion on the one you choose, and potentially help install it in a new garage.
3. Electrical Fireplace: This is a great way to stay warm and add a bit of style to your garages at the same time. Most will even have a thermostat which can be used to control heat.
4. Installing an air conditioner with a split system: Purchasing and installing an air-conditioner with a heating and colling option can be an excellent investment as it can be used all year round. Some air conditioners are also known to be energy efficient and eco-friendly.
5. Infrared heating panels: There are several smart panels available which are easy to install and use. These panels can be controlled through Wi-Fi; this means you can control your room’s temperature with Alexa or Google assistant. They are also lightweight and can be installed on the garage wall or ceiling.
6. Woodburning stove/ Log burners: Log burners are an enjoyable and economical way to heat garages. However, there are several things to be considered. Firstly, you need to ensure that you have a permit from the local authority. There are also several rules and guidelines from the government which will need to be read and followed. It is essential to consult with your home insurance company to see if installing a stove is allowed.
Once bought, make sure to install a twin wall fuel system. This is essential as we do not want the stove fumes to linger around our garages, this can be very harmful to our health. The stove/ chimney will need to regularly checked and cleaned. If you are unable to do so, consider hiring a professional.

We hope this article will help you keep your garage warm and cosy through the cold winter months. And remember, we are just a few weeks away from Christmas; that’s enough excitement to keep us warm throughout the rest of November!
